Silo trailers - specialised transport of goods under controlled conditions

Silo trailers are specialised vehicles for the transportation of loose or granular cargo, used in various industries, including food and construction. Grain silos are equipped with ventilation and heating systems to control the humidity and temperature of the air inside the container, enabling long-term storage of grain without the risk of spoilage.

Silo trailers can be supplied with bent-over tanks, which are unloaded pneumatically from below, or lifting tanks, which are unloaded by means of so-called cupping, i.e. the tank is lifted by a special hydraulic jack. The silo semi-trailer is characterised by its high strength and very good tightness, which makes it possible to maintain the high quality of the transported goods throughout the entire journey.

Efficient loading and unloading of bulk goods

Loading of the silo is done through the top hatches located at the top of the hopper, whether it is a lying silo or an elevated silo. Typically, the driver drives up to the relevant hopper and hooks up the silo to the indicated sleeve, and the hopper feeder measures the goods itself, minimising the risk of overfilling the silo. The loading time, depending on the capacity of the sleeve and the type of goods, is between 15 and 45 minutes.

The unloading process differs depending on the type of trailer. In horizontal silos, unloading is carried out through openings located in cones at the bottom of the silo. These are usually equipped with a vibrating system and ball valves that supply compressed air to assist in the smooth discharge of the material. The whole system is connected by a single pipe that extends to the rear of the trailer, between the axles of the vehicle, allowing efficient unloading. In elevated silos, the unloading of the material takes place via a rear valve cone. During the unloading process, the silo is lifted upwards by means of a tipping lift. The pressure generated by the compressor allows the load to be pushed out of the hopper, making the unloading process easier and faster.

There are also silos with an opening bottom, which is controlled from a panel at the rear of the vehicle. The silos can also be divided into compartments to allow product segregation. In this case, each compartment is equipped with an individual unloading valve.

Why choose a silo trailer? What can it transport?

Silo vehicles are designed for the transport of bulk and granulated goods, most commonly for the construction industry, agricultural goods, and in the food industry. The silo can carry grain, plastic pellets and other granulated bulk materials. Most orders for this type of transport come from the construction industry and include the transport of lime, cement and fine aggregates.

The silo trailer is perfectly suited to the transportation of agricultural goods. It facilitates the swift and secure conveyance of grain, fodder and fertilisers, eliminating concerns regarding potential contamination. Additionally, silo vehicles are being adopted for the transportation of foodstuffs such as sugar, flour and rice.

The silo trailers have a capacity of 60,000 litres due to their special design. The maximum load weight is 27 tonnes.
